June 4, 2004 (Juneau) - Governor Frank H. Murkowski on Thursday afternoon signed into law three bills, including one to authorize AIDEA funding for the Kensington mine, one relating to the length of the school year, and one that amends the bulk fuel revolving loan fund. More News >

Governor Signs Six Bills in Fairbanks
June 4, 2004 (Fairbanks) - Governor Frank H. Murkowski today signed into law six bills sponsored by Fairbanks legislators. He also read and signed a joint resolution. The bills covered the following issues: protection for emergency responders; liability for airstrips; garnishment of PFDs for overdue University bills; traffic preemption devices; navigable waters; and state submerged lands. Flags Lowered for Dutch Harbor Remembrance
June 4, 2004 (Juneau) - Governor Frank H. Murkowski has directed that state flags be flown at half-staff from today through Monday, June 7 in honor of Dutch Harbor Remembrance Day. Dutch Harbor Remembrance Day is established in state law on June 3 of each year to commemorate the attack on Dutch Harbor on June 3, 1942, and to honor those who died in the attack and those inhabitants of Attu and Kiska who fell into enemy hands. Dutch Harbor Remembrance Day also honors those servicemen who died in 1943 while recapturing Attu and Kiska from the Japanese invaders. More News >

Administration Comments on Oceans Report
June 3, 2004 (Juneau) - Governor Frank H. Murkowski today made public the state's comments on the preliminary report of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, emphasizing that any new federal approach to ocean management must recognize and respect individual states' sovereignty. The state's response points to Alaska's oceans and fisheries management regimes as models that the federal effort should emulate, and, in fact, the report recognizes that Alaska has done very well in managing its fisheries.
