Community Energy provides grants from a £50 million fund to encourage community heating (often known as district heating).
Community heating uses one central source of heat to supply to multiple buildings, be they homes, schools, hospitals or offices.

Community Energy Set to go on
In recognition of the Community Energy Programme's achievements, HM Treasury has just awarded the programme a spend extension to March 2007. This significant boost to the programme means that all approved schemes will have an extra year to claim grant funding. The deadline for submission of claims is February 2007.
The bidding rounds for applications remain unchanged, with the last deadline being 31st January 2005. However, this encouraging news means that projects can now be viewed in light of a two year window to receive grant assistance for the work undertaken.

Revised Capital Guidelines & Indicators Documents
With the launch of the new capital grant bidding round on 4th May 04, there have been some minor amendments to the capital grant guidance document that applicants should be aware of. Energy Saving Trust and BRE launch 4-day energy and renewables event
EST and BRE have come together to present resource04, a four day low carbon technology showcase from 7-10 June. This high profile event will feature speakers from various government departments and leading figures in the climate change debate. New Guidance Documents
The Community Energy Programme has just published four guidance documents for prospective Community Heating and CHP scheme developers. These documents have been funded by the Scottish Executive. Although they are aimed at potential scheme developers in Scotland, they do have applicability to the UK.

New Case Study - Aberdeen City Council
Aberdeen City Council was faced with issues of hard to treat properties and fuel poverty. This detailed case study details how they used Community Energy as a solution to this issues when upgrading their multi-storey and low-rise housing to achieve a reduction in fuel bills and CO2 emissions of 40%. Information is given on their appraisal and funding process, as well as implementation. This case study is valuable reading for local authorities and housing associations.
