Community Involvement
Compuware was recognized for the fourth consecutive year as one of Metropolitan Detroit's 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. In addition to making the list, Compuware was recognized as one of ten elite companies for outstanding efforts in Community Initiatives. Compuware CANTo support employees who volunteer their time, talents and resources to improve our communities and make ours a better world, Compuware launched Compuware CAN (Community Action Network). Compuware CAN is a way to empower employee volunteers and to promote volunteer programs. Each year, Compuware employees worldwide voluntarily spend countless hours collecting food for the hungry, helping the fight against cancer, sponsoring holiday festivities for foster children and raising money to support the arts. Below are a few of the programs Compuware employees are proud to support. Race For The Cure®Compuware is a major sponsor of the Detroit-area Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race For the Cure®. The Race for the Cure® series has become the largest series of 5K runs in the nation, held in more than 100 U.S. cities and three foreign countries with more than 1.3 million participants expected. The race includes a 5K competitive run for women; a 5K competitive run for men; a 5K run and walk for women, family and friends; and a one-mile fun walk. Compuware offices across the country participate in their local Race for the Cure® fundraisers. The Detroit race brings in 25,000 participants with an approximately 650-member-strong Compuware team composed of employees, friends and family. Compuware Fund for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer InstituteThe vision of the Karmanos Cancer Institute is to become one of the top cancer centers in the country. Already a world-class facility, its goal is for truly exceptional cancer care to be available for residents of the metropolitan Detroit community and the world. By giving generously to the Compuware Fund, Compuware employees helped expand and equip core research facilities, and recruit and retain the finest research scientists and physicians. Our donations helped integrate new technologies into research and treatment programs as well as pioneer the most advanced cancer treatments. The donations of Compuware employees have saved lives. Compuware employees formed a fund allocation committee to determine how their contributions are spent at the Institute. They also donated time and dollars to support fund-raising events throughout the year. America's Thanksgiving ParadeFor over 75 years, Detroit has hosted America's Thanksgiving Parade, and since 2000, Compuware has been involved. We sponsored the new Santa's Castle at the same time we began construction on Compuware's new headquarters. Each year, employees volunteer to be elves to accompany Santa on the parade route, and also to work on floats and contribute to all aspects of the parade—a great Detroit tradition. The Parade is broadcast in syndication all over the country, so Compuware employees anywhere in the U.S. should be able to see the Compuware elves and castle. HAVENThis agency for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse is located in Oakland County, Michigan. In addition to providing financial support for HAVEN, Compuware encourages its employees to help HAVEN by volunteering their time in its offices, at its holiday party and other events. In commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2002 marked the beginning of a new Compuware program: collecting used cellphones to donate to HAVEN. We collected more than 120 phones in one month from our Detroit-area employees. The phones are reprogrammed and made available to clients for emergency use or recycled with proceeds going to HAVEN. The cell-phone program is part of a national drive to support victims of domestic violence. Habitat for HumanityCompuware employees help to build homes in southwest Detroit's Habitat for Humanity Tricentennial Village. Paint the TownCompuware volunteers grab a paintbrush and ladder, and join Detroit's Paint the Town campaign to brighten homes in a selected neighborhood each year. Gleaners Community Food BankEach year, dozens of Compuware employees and their families—kids, too—sort and pack food at the Gleaners Community Food Bank. Gleaners distributes the food to families and agencies in the Detroit area. Judson Center Children's Holiday PartyFor 15 years, Compuware employees have helped this agency by throwing a holiday party for the children it serves. We provide pizza and gifts for the kids, which is sometimes the only gift they will get that year. Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank International Marathon and Compuware 5K Run/WalkIn the fall, Detroit hosts an international marathon on the streets of Detroit, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Compuware sponsors the 5K Fun Run/Walk portion of the event. Compuware employees volunteer at the event and particpate in the marathon, relays and the 5K Run Dress for SuccessDuring a week-long program called Clean Out Your Closet Week, employees at Compuware's headquarters building donate gently used business clothing for women entering the workforce. Each year, we have filled dozens of wardrobes. Red Cross Blanket DaysFrom Thanksgiving through Christmas, Compuware participates in the annual Detroit-area Red Cross Blanket Days Drive. Employees donate new, twin-sized blankets, which the Red Cross distributes to shelters for keeping the homeless warm during the winter. Make-a-Wish FoundationCompuware executives, employees and business partners participate in this 300-mile, three-day bike ride. The Make-a-Wish foundation grants chronically and terminally ill children one wish. Compuware employees have helped make wishes come true through hard work, riding and fundraising. In 2002, Compuware's team was the top fundraiser of the ride. Virus Vaccination DayIn conjunction with the Detroit-area United Way, Compuware volunteers participate in a one-day, city-wide effort to help local non-profit agencies install anti-virus software on their computers. Civic and Cultural InstitutionsCompuware has been a strong supporter of the cultural institutions in the Detroit area to enhance the quality of life for our employees and to support our community. Each year, employees volunteer their time and enjoy the many programs presented by the Detroit Science Center, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and others. Educational ProgramsCompuware provides financial support for many youth and educational programs in the Detroit area. In addition, Compuware employees volunteer as mentors and provide technical support for these programs. Walks for CharityCompuware employees participate in numerous walks and fund-raisers, such as the AIDS Walk, the Walk as One diversity walk, the American Heart Walk, the Avon Breast Cancer Walk and others in the Detroit area and around the country. Giving CampaignThe Corporate Giving Campaign is conducted each October in Michigan. Each year, Michigan employees have the opportunity to donate funds to diverse organizations supported by the United Way, Community Health Charities of Michigan, Earthshare of Michigan and the Black United Fund of Michigan. Compuware offices worldwide participate in similar programs to share their resources with the community. American Red Cross Blood DriveCompuware sponsors a Blood Drive twice a year at its headquarters. Employee response is always outstanding, keeping the Red Cross volunteers busy all day long. The Holiday Greeting Card SaleEach November, a number of charities display their greeting cards and order forms at our headquarters. Compuware employees support these charities by purchasing greeting cards. We have sold cards for organizations such as the Alzheimers' Association, American Brain Tumor Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Easter Seals, Forgotten Harvest, Karmanos Cancer Institute, the Michigan Humane Society and the Ronald McDonald House. Take Our Kids to Work DaysCompuware takes great pride in supporting its employees and their families. We also believe in investing today for a better tomorrow. For these reasons, Compuware proudly sponsors Take Our Kids to Work Day. Employees' children are invited to join our work force for a day. The children learn about the company and discover what their parents do "at the office." Keeping with Compuware's support of work/life balance, the kids participate in basketball, aerobics and jogging activities in the Wellness Center. |
