Natural Beauty and Outdoor Recreation  Abundant In Grant County

If you're looking for a vacation in the outdoors, it's hard to beat Grant County.  There's more than 150,000 acres of wilderness areas waiting to be explored, as well as scenic areas and natural wonders. Mile after mile of trails lead alongside streams full of fish or up to the mountain tops offering views that rival any to be found.

Thousands of acres of public lands in the Malheur, Wallowa-Whitman, Ochoco and Umatilla national forests offer backpacking, fishing, horseback riding, hunting,  birding or scenic driving opportunities.  Campgrounds abound with a wide variety of facilities.

While visiting Grant County, visit the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and museums in Canyon City, John Day and Prairie City. Capture the area's history, from the days when Paiute Indians inhabited the region to when gold was discovered near Canyon City in 1862 to when Chinese laborers extracted ore from the mines.

Whatever your agenda may be, Grant County is a great place to unwind and spend time with family and get back in touch with nature.
