The President has taken action. The U.S. Senate has taken action. Now it's time for the U.S. House of Representatives to do its part!

Last October, President Bush issued a Proclamation marking Protection from Pornography Week. In November, the U.S. Senate, by unanimous consent, passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 77, which said in part, "it is the sense of Congress that Federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced throughout the United States."

The House of Representatives has before it an identically worded resolution, House Concurrent Resolution 298, which was introduced on October 8, 2003 by Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK). It was referred to both the Judiciary Committee (Subcommittee on Crime) and the Energy and Commerce Committee (Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet), but has sat there ever since.

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1. If your Representative is a co-sponsor of H. Con. Res. 298, first say thanks for being a sponsor and then ask him or her to push for passage of the Resolution.
2. If your Representative is not a co-sponsor, ask him or her to become a co-sponsor and to push for passage of H. Con. Res. 298.

Please push for passage of H. Con. Res. 298, which states in part, "that it is the sense of Congress that Federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced throughout the United States." In November 2003, the Senate passed an identically worded S. Con. Res. 77 by unanimous consent.

House Concurrent Resolution 298 was introduced in October 2003 and referred to both the Judiciary Committee (Subcommittee on Crime) and the Energy and Commerce Committee (Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet), but has sat there ever since—just as it sat in the Judiciary Committee in 2002, with 86 co-sponsors, without ever coming up for a vote, until the 107th Congress ended.

H.Con.Res.298 will help dispel the lie that obscenity has become as mainstream and acceptable as apple pie—a 'siren song' that hardcore pornographers and their defenders love to sing—and will provide much needed support for U.S. Attorneys nationwide as they fulfill their responsibility to enforce obscenity laws.

In March 2002, and again in March 2004, national opinion polls conducted by Wirthlin Worldwide for Morality in Media found that more than 80 percent of Americans want the Federal laws against Internet obscenity vigorously enforced.
