Annual Hope Awards Benefit

To commemorate National Missing Children's Day, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children proudly presented the Third Annual Hope Awards Benefit.

This event honors individuals, corporations, and nonprofit organizations whose exemplary efforts have profoundly improved the welfare of children around the world. A not-to-be-missed, high-profile event, the Hope Awards bring together an allegiance of corporate leaders dedicated to locating and recovering missing children.

The 2004 Hope Awards Benefit was held on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC.

Bryan Cranston, actor and comedian, served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Special guests included John Walsh, host of "America's Most Wanted," and his wife Revé Walsh.

 

Charles B. Wang International Children's Award

This year's Charles B. Wang International Children's Award was presented to two associates of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.® who created Code Adam, the in-store child security system now implemented in more than 45,000 retail stores nationwide, and the Missing Children's Network, Wal-Mart's massive, nationwide missing child search system. The Wal-Mart associates whose ideas led to the creation of those efforts, Bill Burns of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Mark Earl, of Bentonville, Arkansas, were honored.


Chairman's Humanitarian Award

The Chairman's Humanitarian Award was presented to Rev. Angelo D'Agostino, SJ, MD.

Making the World Safer for Children Award

The Making the World Safer for Children Award was presented to Mr. Ed Smart and Mrs. Lois Smart.

Child Victimization in the Media Award

The Child Victimization in the Media Award was awarded to Mr. Craig Moon, President and Publisher, USA Today®. Ken Paulson, Editor, USA Today, will accept the award.

Global Vision Award

The Global Vision Award was presented to Mr. Craig Millard, Chairman, Texas Gulf and Harbor, Ltd.

Congressional Leadership Award

The Congressional Leadership Award was presented to Congressman Nick Lampson (D-TX) and Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL).

Technology for Children Award

The Technology for Children Award was awarded to Scott McNealy, Chairman, President & CEO, Sun Microsystems®.
