Super Work for a Super Bridge

The Government has given the Mersey Crossing Group its support in principle for a new bridge between Runcorn and Widnes, by classifying the work done to date as "super work in progress".

Following detailed discussions with the Department of Transport, further studies are now being carried out in a number of areas, including traffic modelling and environmental studies. It is the intention of the Mersey Crossing Group to have these extra studies completed by September 2004, with a view to the Government making its final decision in December 2004.

A Bridge to Prosperity

If the bid for a new Mersey crossing is successful it will be a catalyst for the continued regeneration of the borough of Halton, Merseyside and the North-West as a whole:

For commuters it will mean a journey free from the delays and frustration caused by congestion

For businesses it will provide a faster route to meet new customers' needs and deliver a more competitive service

For the community it will offer new leisure opportunities like cycling and walking

For the region it will maximise development and employment opportunities

The Mersey Crossing Group still needs your help to make the crossing a reality so please register your support today.
