Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Homeland Security is to be the single, Statewide focal point for coordinating the State's efforts to prevent terrorist attacks, reduce Alaska's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the loss of life or damage to critical infrastructure, and recover from attacks if they occur.

No one can know where the "War on Terrorism" will take us.  However, it is clear that as long as we have an enemy dedicated on attacking our fellow citizens and destroying our way of life, we must be ready to defend ourselves.

Alaska's Office of Homeland Security is committed to this important task!

While we are dedicated to this mission, it is not an easy task.  The openness of our society makes this both challenging and extremely difficult.

We have streamlined many procedures in order to improve the flow of information throughout the government and to the private sector.

As an example, the Governor's Homeland Security Task Force has merged with the federal Anti-Terrorism Task Force to form the Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council with a broad spectrum of members from Federal, State, and local agencies as well as members of business and industry.  While we're moving forward in many areas, we simply cannot do it without the help of all Alaskans.

Improving the flow of information to the public will help create a responsible level of awareness.  By doing so, we avoid over-reaction, at the same time allowing a proper response when it's appropriate.

In order for this to work, we need your help.  We encourage all Alaskans to contact our office if you have ideas or information that is useful.   Remember, in the event of an emergency, call your local law enforcement representatives, and dial 9-1-1

We look forward to serving you.  Remember we have a resourceful, inventive enemy who knows our weaknesses, but he has seriously underestimated our resolve.
