Fishing on Bald Head
Island
Bald Head Island offers some of the best fishing
in North Carolina. There are three beaches facing
the Atlantic Ocean and one facing the mouth of the Cape
Fear River. The marsh flats and tidal creeks are located
on the backside of the island. There is a fishing pier
located at the entrance to the marina. Frequent catches
include Flounder, Drum, Blues, Spanish Mackerel and
King Mackerel. The tidal creeks offer excellent crabbing
and cast netting for bait fish. If you want to go claming,
grab a rake and walk out onto the sandbars at low tide.
If you are a fresh water angler, there are several fresh
water lagoons with Large Mouth Bass and Tarpon. Be sure
not to get too close the famous Bald Head Island Alligators
frequently seen sunbathing along the banks.
Bald Head Island is located adjacent
to Frying Pan Shoals and the mouth of the Cape Fear.
We are close to several great offshore fishing areas
and the Gulf Stream. There are Charter Fishing Boats
located on the island.
We have provided a fishing schedule below along with charter
boat operators and our highly viewed North
Carolina Fishing Guide. Also, be sure to view our
