Bald
Head Island Conservancy
While spending time
on Bald Head Island, the most pronounced feature found will be the island's dedication to
the preservation of the island.
Bald Head is and
always will be a secluded, island paradise full of beautiful and rare creatures.
A team of very
dedicated people have been determined for many years to protect the island's natural
beauty. From the lighthouse to the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtles, Bald Head
Island will always remain natural and in many cases the "barrier island" that it
is.
All homes on the
island must also fit into the natural lay of the lands. For example, homes may not
be taller than the trees. When building a home here, trees and shrubs must not be
destroyed. Rather you must build your home around a tree, instead of chopping it
down.
Many flower gardens
line the roads of the island, making it a pleasure to ride around and take in the beauty.
While staying in
your resort rental home, recycling is a must. Aluminum cans must be deposited into a
separate canister. The recycling of cans, plastics and glass is very much appreciated on
BHI. The recycling center is located on Muscadine Wynd, next to the fire station.

Please remember that while
vacationing on Bald Head, keep a critical eye while you are vacationing. Be careful
not to litter, feed the wildlife and never get too close to the alligators. During
the summer months if you are staying on the beach, please remember to keep deck lights
off. Deck lights will distract the sea turtles from coming up on the beach to lay
nests.
