Professional Photographer & Artist Program

IMPORTANT DEADLINE INFORMATION

The 2004 application period has closed, and we are no longer accepting applications. Updated application material for the 2005 applicaton will be available in the fall of 2004.

Welcome to the professional photographer/artist special travel permit program. There have been a few adjustments to the program so please make sure you read and follow the definitions and guidelines for submission.

Fees:

  • $100 Initial Application Fee:  Required for first time applicants and those submitting proofs for updating original application (every three years).

  • $50 Annual Application Fee:  Renews application in years when proofs are not required.

  • $150 Permit Fee:  Required for applicants who receive a permit for the current season.  Payment is due upon receipt of your confirmation letter.

Park Entrance Fees are $5 for individuals and $10 for families and must be paid at the Visitor Center. As in the past, entrance fees are good for seven consecutive days. The $20 annual park pass will save you money if you have multiple dates. You must present your entrance fee receipt when receiving your Road Travel Permit. While at the Visitor Center, please check with the Backcountry Desk for current closures.

Application and permit fees are nonrefundable and not transferable.  Checks returned for insufficient funds will void the application.

Cancellations:

Cancellations: Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance.  Call the Professional Photography telephone number at (907) 683-6362.  Please let us know if you're not coming. We can't give your dates to someone else if you don't call.

Vehicles:

Private vehicles cannot be used in conjunction with backpack trips. Use the shuttle bus system if you intend to backpack. During shoulder seasons, vehicles will not be permitted to travel beyond posted closures.  No oversize vehicles are permitted.  Photographers or artists are limited to one additional person in his/her vehicle while using a special travel permit (total of two).

Reservation of photographers pullout (pit). The intent of this is not to create a campground but a place where photographers may pull in and catch a couple hours of sleep in their vehicle while waiting for early morning light. There are no sanitation facilities. Use proper waste management techniques (pack in/pack out).  Sign up when you arrive to pick up your Road Travel Permit, or contact a ranger if you wish to use the pullout. Each photographer can use the pullout for a maximum of two nights throughout the summer season.  No more than two vehicles per night may use this area.

Code of Ethics:

There have been several changes made to the Denali National Park & Preserve Photographers Code of Ethics effective this year. Please read it carefully. Failure to comply with the Code may result in revocation of your permit or legal action.

Criteria for Submission:

Digital photographs and web sites can now be included in proof submission.  Proofs for renewal of status are now required every three years.  As an example, photographers/artists who qualified in 2001 will not be required to submit new proofs until 2004.

Videographers are now included in the Professional Photographer program.  Please read the Criteria section carefully.

Online Application:

Visit our website, and you will be able to print the application and mail it directly to us.  We no longer maintain a mailing list. It is your responsibility to submit the application on time and to determine when you need to submit proofs for re-application.  Below you will find links to the application as well as the Denali National Park and Preserve Photographers Code of Ethics.  Please print and sign each document and mail it directly to us.
