GALUMPANG AND RONGKONG Visit the aboriginal
Toala people in the mountains east of Galumpang, a one week walk from
Rantepao through the jungles. A superstitious people who wear unique clothing,
the Toalas are also found around the Poso area but are more unpredictable.
In the tranquil village of Makki, Rongkong and Seko north of Palanga'
live the modern Toala. getting there: One way to reach them is by bus
first to Palopo then on to Sabang by car for Rp300 (Rp500 if you have

to Seko in another 3 days, then from Seko to Galumpang a further 2 days.
Another way is to follow the river to Galumpang, on to Makki and Seko,

to Tamlea from where you can take a riverboatdownto Mamuju. Then trek
from Mamuju to Mamasa. This will take you in all about 4 weeks. Slippery,
muddy and hot, a tortuous but beautiful walk.
