Data Center
Technician Contract positions in Atlanta, GA / Mountain View,
CA / Washington, D.C.
Google needs your help to build the physical infrastructure
behind its powerful search technology. Help Google build and maintain
its Linux cluster consisting of more than 10,000 servers.
This is an excellent entry level opportunity for individuals who want to become Linux gurus, system administrators, or network engineers. Work on a team with highly motivated, talented individuals like yourself that are striving each day to advance their Linux, networking, and hardware related skills.
Responsibilities include:
- Install new servers as our Linux cluster grows.
- Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
- Install switches, routers, and other networking gear.
- Fix broken servers (replace hard drives, replace bad sticks of RAM,
etc.).
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS related issues on our servers.
Position requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years working with PC hardware.
- At least one year of Linux experience.
- Able to lift/move 20-30 lbs equipment on a daily basis.
- Experience troubleshooting and installing operating systems, networking
equipment, and software.
- AA degree or equivalent experience is required.
- Must provide own transportation to the job site.

Data
Center Facilities Manager
Positions available in Atlanta, GA and Northern
California.
Google is looking for an experienced data center facilities
manager to provide day-to-day oversight and management of a data center
facility. This individual will act as the interface between teams at
Google headquarters, the local contractors responsible for maintenance
and operation of the facility, and the Google team responsible for installation
and operation of servers within the data center. This position will ensure
the ongoing flawless operation of the data center, will ensure that facilities
problems are identified and repaired quickly, will ensure that contractors
are delivering quality services, and will make sure that all internal
customer demands are being met. This individual will work to find creative
ways to keep operational costs to a minimum and will work outside of
the box with team members to improve efficiency and implement new data
center strategies.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a facilities manager at a medium
or large world-class data center.
- An undergraduate degree in an appropriate technical field.
- A very good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in
use in a data center environment including feeders, transformers, generators,
switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air
handling units, and CRAC units. An ability to communicate intelligently
and effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade
work on systems installed in a data center environment.
- A great attitude with internal customers and external parties, excellent
written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to provide
leadership and oversight to the facilities team deployed at the data
center.
- The ability to learn quickly, work autonomously, and address any
issues that arise day-or-night.
- Three years previous management and project management experience.

Hardware Operations Team
Manager
Positions available in Chicago, IL and Atlanta, GA.
With more than 10,000 servers, Google has built one of the largest server farms
in the world. We are looking for a manager to lead a team of datacenter technicians
responsible for maintaining our computer and network infrastructure. It is your
job to motivate these technical teams so that they are efficiently deploying
new servers, fixing broken servers, installing new networking infrastructure,
etc. At the scale you will be dealing with, there will be many complex processes
and technical challenges that you will have to help your teams solve. Do not
apply for this position unless you have a solid background in Linux system administration,
PC hardware, networking, and datacenter infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Take full responsibility for prioritizing the tasks presented to
the group.
- Be the contact point for the group in all corporate interactions.
- Manage troubleshooting and incident reports.
- Work with the full operations group and with Google's strategic
planners to help design each new generation of our computing and network
architecture.
- Take responsibility for the implementation of projects for your
team, which can involve programming, procurement, deployment, maintenance,
troubleshooting, education, and emergency response.
Requirements:
- BS or BA in a technical field.
- 4+ years experience with Linux system administration.
- 3+ years as a manager of system administrators.
- Solid understanding of PC hardware architecture, maintenance, and
repair.
- 3+ years experience working in datacenters and building out server
farm infrastructure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

for a senior manager to manage our teams of datacenter technicians
across multiple regions and multiple datacenters. It is your job to
motivate these technical teams so that they are efficiently deploying
new servers, fixing broken servers, installing new networking infrastructure,
etc. At the scale you will be dealing with, there will be many complex
processes and technical challenges that you will have to help your
teams solve. Do not apply for this position unless you have a solid
background in Linux system administration, PC hardware, networking,
and datacenter infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple teams across separate regions.
- Take full responsibility for prioritizing the tasks presented to
the group.
- Be the contact point for the group in all corporate interactions.
- Manage troubleshooting and incident reports.
- Work with the full operations group and with Google's strategic planners

- Take responsibility for the implementation of projects for your teams,

- For East Coast position only: Travel required up to 50% time.

- 4+ years experience with Linux system administration.
- 4+ years as a manager of system administrators.

- 4+ years experience working in datacenters and building out server
farm infrastructure.
