Naturalization

Picture of House with World Globe insideThe Family Liaison Office acts as liaison with the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) in foreign-born spouse naturalization cases. The processing time is under the sole authority of the USCIS.

Although the Family Liaison Office provides assistance to all Foreign Affairs agencies in other program areas, their naturalization assistance is limited to Department of State spouses due to the large number of new and pending cases. The office will provide general guidance to spouses from other agencies and work with office counterparts to share information.

The process is outlined in FLO's paper Naturalization under Immigration and Nationality Act Section 319(b).
