Officially opened on June 30th, 1968, the "Tower " has become the City of Calgary's most famous and identifiable physical landmark. Though now 35 years old, the Calgary Tower is still the 4th tallest structure in the city and a must-see on any tourist's itinerary. Throughout the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, an Olympic Torch burned non-stop at the top of the Tower. When the "Torch" is lit on special occasions it sparks back fond memories as well as a certain civic pride in all Calgarians.
