Coalition's Support Essential for Iraq's Success
Secretary Powell (July 27): "[T]here's a brighter future ahead for the Iraqi people but only if the coalition stays together, only if the coalition provides the kind of support that the Iraqi people are asking for and they need." [full text]

Sudan
Deputy Spokesman J. Adam Ereli (July 26): "[W]e're in diplomatic high gear at the United Nations to discuss a resolution...calling on the Government of Sudan to take real action to stop the violence, an arms embargo on the Jingaweit, arresting Jingaweit leaders and reporting on the fulfillment of those commitments." Europe and Middle East
Secretary Powell visits Hungary, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Poland, July 26 to August 1. In the Middle East, he will discuss the situation in Iraq, cooperation in the war on terror, Gaza disengagement, and reform. In Hungary, he will emphasize the strength of our bilateral relationship. In Poland, he will attend the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.  [more]

The task of disabling, dismantling, and removing North Korea’s nuclear programs is much larger and more complex than it was for Libya, so the sooner it can get started, the better.

The U.S. has tripled the amount of aid originally designated for Haiti this fiscal year.

The Millennium Challenge program provides development assistance to help recipient countries attract investment and trade.

A recently released USAID report, "A Year in Iraq," states that $3.3 billion in U.S. aid fixed schools, vaccinated millions of children, restored electricity and created Iraq’s first democratic councils.
