In Drift Boats we row, chasing the fish of Alaska, pursuing our quarry in the traditional manner of Fair Chase. Rowing, yes Rowing, our drift boats, we slowly work the waters in search of their lies. We drift from pool to pool, feeling the power of the water while climbing standing waves in the unharnessed main current. We feel the subtle currents too, caressing the boat while it slips from quiet pools into soft eddies which lead into narrow chutes to places you always wanted to fish but couldn't because they were just beyond your cast. To feel the magic of the oars stroke smoothly as you drift over unseen rocks while giving yourself a chance to hear and see the splendors around you. It is a ride that is in harmony with nature. We of Alaska Drift Boaters are in the classic tradition of Isacc Walton, Rodrick Haegg Brown, of Boon and Crockett, Pope and Young, and Alaska Guides Hal Waugh and Charles J. Kyme. Like they, we do what we do in Fair Chase.
Alaska Drift Boaters fish the waters of the Upper Kenai River, Alaska. Along with our regular Kenai Trophy Rainbow Trout Trips, we offer fishing for early King Salmon on the Kasilof River and Rainbows and Dolly Varden on the famous Kenai River Canyon Trip. This is an unforgettable river fishing trip known for its scenic ride across Upper Skilak Lake, frequent bear sightings, great white water, and superb Rainbow and Dolly Varden fishing. We start fishing at 8:00 am and are off the river by 5:00 pm. You can fish whatever style of fishing is comfortable for you. Fly fishing, level wind, and spinning reels. We can drag bugs, pull plugs, cast spinners, work the water from the gravel bars - its your choice. The scenic beauty of this area is breathtaking as you drift and fish through the Kenai Mountains to Jim's Landing. Fishing is fishing with the 30" plus Rainbows lurking under the surface. The ladies really enjoy this trip whether they fish or not. And with luck, we could see Moose, Black or Brown Bear, River Otter, Mink, Beaver, Coyote, and majestic Bald Eagles. Dall Sheep and Mountain Goat are visible on the surrounding mountains. If the Red Salmon are in, we might stop and fish or just watch the people in the combat zone where the world reknowned Russian River combat fishing takes place. Warm clothes are the order of the day. Good raingear and footwear. As the temperature drops 10 degrees when you are on the river, layered clothing is the proven way to go in Alaska. We do not furnish lunch, so pack some food. We also offer a 3 hour SCENIC SWEEP BOAT CRUISE on the upper Kenai River. Drift from Kenai Lake for 10 miles through Cooper Landing to Jim's Landing enjoying spectacular scenery and wildlife.
