Compuware Features Leading Industry Expert at DB2 Educational Seminar Series

Attendees of 16-city Seminar Series Featuring Susan Lawson to Learn About New Features of DB2 Version 8 and Its Impact on DB2 Subsystems and Applications

DETROIT--July 27, 2004--Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced it is hosting a free, 16-city DB2 seminar series featuring Susan Lawson, an IBM GOLD Consultant and internationally recognized DB2 author and lecturer. The seminar series, titled "DB2 for z/OS Version 8: Are You Ready?" will highlight the new features of DB2 for z/OS Version 8 and its impact on DB2 subsystem and applications, as well as Compuware’s solutions for DB2.

"DB2 z/OS Version 8 is a release unlike any other, and organizations need to look closely at the new features and how to implement them with success," said Susan Lawson, President, YL&A. "Attendees of the Compuware DB2 seminar series will learn what it takes to get to Version 8, how to start planning today and how to best take advantage of the new features."

The educational half-day seminars--geared toward IT managers, DBAs, developers and system analysts--will be held in Indianapolis, St. Louis, Dallas, San Francisco, Charlotte, Richmond, New York, Atlanta, Columbus, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Toronto and Montreal from July 26, 2004 through September 24, 2004.

DB2 Version 8 for z/OS is the largest release in the history of DB2 and impacts several areas of a DB2 subsystem and applications. Susan’s presentation will cover the new features of DB2 V8 on the z/OS platform including:

  • Old restrictions that have been lifted to allow for more availability
  • 64-bit addressability and Unicode
  • New constructs, such as data partitioned secondary indexes (DPSI) and table-based partitioning, which changes the way physical implementations have been performed in the past
  • New features that will affect application performance, such as materialized query tables, multi-row fetch/insert, sequences, Universal Client for Java and XML
  • How to coordinate and plan the unique migration from V7 to V8.

"We designed the seminar series with Susan Lawson to help DB2 users gain valuable insight into the new DB2 release and to have the opportunity to get answers to their most important questions," said Larry Angeli, Vice President of Marketing, Compuware Corporation. "Compuware is committed to providing continuing support for all DB2 needs throughout the application lifecycle."
