File Preparation
Tips
•
|
Resolution
Rule of Thumb:
Graphics with largest dimension under 50"
should use 150 DPI for raster art.
If your graphic exceeds 50", you may reduce
resolution to 100 DPI to conserve size.
Exceeding 200 DPI slows down the RIP and does
not add quality.
|
|
• |
Compress files
with a ZIP or StuffIt utility. Do not compress
TIFFs with LZW.
|
|
• |
Remember that increasing the scale
of an image by interpolation can result in a severly
degraded image. Attempting to use web-ready graphics
at exhibit display sizes is likely to yield unsatisfactory
results.
|
|
• |
Bleed:
If longest dimension is under 50", provide
0.25" bleed all around. If longest dimension
is over 50", provide 0.50" bleed all
around.
|
|
• |
If preparing art for multi-panel
murals, DO NOT attempt to divide the panels into
separate files. Prepare a single file for the entire
image area with one bleed-around only.
|
|
• |
Build all files to exact proportion.
You may send a file at double resolution and half-scale
if your layout software does not accomodate display
dimensions.
|
|
• |
Vector gradients can cause banding,
sometimes severe.
|
|
• |
Send files in RGB format.
|
|
• |
Large mural art tip:
We have had very good experiences with final Photoshop
art saved as a flat JPEG at a #9 quality and 150DPI.
This assumes that the original art was of high quality
but it yields a very good file at a much reduced
file size. Please confirm your image quality before
sending any file in this format.
