"IGOR MITORAJ"
MERCATI TRAIANEI, ROMA

MERCATI TRAIANEI and FORO TRAIANO

Foro Traiano e Mercati
Via IV Novembre - Roma

At Mercati Traianei of Rome opens an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the German sculptor Igor Mitoraj (1944). The archaeological site is very suggestive: his pieces of sculptures are big fragments of classical statues covered by bandages. The works are 70 and the material used are: marble, cast iron and bronze that recalls the sense of melancholy and yearning, a constant of the works of Mitoraj. Maybe, these sculptures are the symbols and the recollections of a unknown father, a figure that summarizes the concept of the "absence". Mitoraj studies to the Academy of Art (Polonia) and here he meets his "spiritual" guide: the extraordinary dramatist Tadeusz Kantor, who teaches to him that "to put in evidence an object its better to hide this". From here the birth of his mutilated statues, that want to arouse into us the love for the beauty and the thrilling theatre of the life.
