History

Driver Profile

Frank FreonFranck Freon moves to the No. 3 Compuware Racing Corvette for the 2003 season with teammates Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell.  Success came quickly, with a season-opening victory at Sebring.  He joined Team Corvette in 2000 and teamed with Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins to win back-to-back Petit Le Mans races.

Freon, a native of France, jump-started his racing career with a scholarship to the Winfield driving school in 1986.  He went on to the Indy Lights Series, where he took Rookie of the Year honors in 1991 and posted three wins and four poles in 1992 en route to a runner-up finish in the series championship.  In 1993, he repeated his series runner-up finish with five podium finishes and one win.  He is a veteran of eight CART events, with a top finish of 12th at Long Beach in 1995.  Freon also holds an electronics degree from EFEI in Paris.

Career Highlights:

  • Kicked off 2003 season with victory at Sebring in the No. 3 Compuware Racing Corvette
  • Nine starts at 24 Hours of Le Mans, with best finish of 1st in LMP2 class in 1996
  • His total of two career wins in eight starts in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) includes back-to-back Corvette wins in the Petit Le Mans in 2000 and 2001 with Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins
  • Helped Corvette take the overall win in the 2001 Daytona 24 Hours race with teammates Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell and Chris Kneifel
  • Eight career starts in CART Indy Car series, with best finish of 12th in 1995
  • In 1992, three wins in the Indy Lights Series
  • In 1991, Indy Lights Rookie of the Year
