BBB MEMBERS TO ADVERTISE BUREAU MEMBERSHIP
BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
OFFERS BBB MEMBERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO
ADVERTISE BUREAU MEMBERSHIP

Beginning January 1999, members of the BBB that commit to certain standards have the opportunity to apply for the privilege of identifying their business as a BBB member.

Membership Identification  Program (MIP) participants may identify themselves in print and broadcast advertising (newspapers, periodicals, billboards, posters, telephone, TV and radio ads, flyers and direct mail) in yellow pages or other directories, on business cards, stationery and invoices, facsimile cover sheet and other business documents.   The identification can occur solely in the service area of the BBB or BBBs with which they have signed an MIP agreement.

Television and radio advertisements may contain the spoken statement, Member, Better Business Bureau.  The Internet is not included in the MIP program. The BBB has the BBBOnLine â program that caters to that medium.

A MIP participant may state it is a member as long as they include the geographic locator of the BBB of which it is a member. Each participant may use the authorized torch logo or select one of the following text statements for its advertising use:

Member Better Business Bureau serving Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia

Member Better Business Bureau of Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia

Member Better Business Bureau Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia

Member BBB - Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia

Advertising Guidelines and Monitoring of Logo Use

Before a business may identify itself as a member of the Better Business Bureau, it must:

·         Have been in business for at least one year,

·         Have a satisfactory record with the BBB,

·         Agree to participate in and comply with a meaningful dispute resolution process when unresolved complaints are brought to the Bureau’s attention and

·         Agree to advertise its BBB membership only in the Better Business Bureau serving the following Southeast Tennessee Counties: Bledsoe, Bradley, Grundy, Hamilton, McMinn, Marion, Meigs, Polk, Rhea, Sequatchie, Van Buren and the following Northwest Georgia Counties: Catoosa, Chatooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Walker, Whitfield.

The Council of Better Business Bureaus, the umbrella organization for the nation’s 135 Better Business Bureaus, approved the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia for participation in the Membership Identification Program. The Better Business Bureau is committed to monitoring use of the BBB name and logo, including ensuring that members use only the approved logos and that they comply with the service area restrictions. The BBB will monitor advertising to ensure that non-members are not falsely identifying themselves as BBB members.
