I even write occasionally for Marine Fish Monthly and Fresh Water and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) magazines as I am an avid salt water hobbyist. You name it, I have written an article on it. Weight training, weight loss, HIV, cancer, heart disease, anabolics and other drugs, pre contest diets, supplements of all kinds, hair loss, yada, yada, yada ( I miss that show already!). I have put a few of those article on the web page for your perusal.

* RnD and marketing consultant to the health and bodybuilding industry. I have worked with many supplement, pharmaceutical, and dairy companies helping them design nutritional products, improve particular products, or help them market products in fitness, bodybuilding, longevity, or other markets. Some of the services included:

* Product RnD * Connecting manufacturers with retailers and vise versa. * Assisting with raw material acquisition to keep costs down and quality up. * Working on label and product literature to match the product lingo with the buyer. * Working with the advertising staff, as well as various departments within a company to coordinate product RnD, and development. * Assisting in setting up locations and protocols for research and validation of formulas or compounds. * Finding markets for raw material manufacturers through my network and relationships with retail companies. *Marketing assistance.

These are just some of the functions I have served for some of the industries best known companies. Interested parties can contact me at my email address listed on the home page

* Consulting Sports Nutrition Editor for Lets Live (Physical).

Lets Live is a main stream "health and fitness" oriented magazine with large readership. I bit too "soft core" for most bodybuilder types, it focuses on issues of health, weight loss, longevity, etc. Recently, a separate publication put out be Lets Live called "Physical" was created to address more sports nutrition oriented concerns of bodybuilders and other athletes. I am a Consulting Sports Nutrition editor and columnist and was the Project Editor for the first edition. I have also done a fair amount of consulting work for other publications, whether it be writing, marketing, finding writers, and other assignments.

* Trainer of high levels athletes, police, and military personnel.

At one time I had a good reputation for getting high level bodybuilders into top shape for competition or getting them ever larger in the off season. That sort of spun off to other athletes, such as golfers, runners, etc. A lot of my clients were actually trainers who wanted to learn more and improve their knowledge about the business they were in, as well as medical professionals and dietitians who were interested in sports nutrition and other health related issues. I was a busy private trainer at one time and ran a small business for 4 years. I also work with police departments and some SWAT/Special Ops members in the local area as well as giving advice to a few Special Forces types. Some of these guys like to remain anonymous while others I know quite well. My ex father in law is the director of the Natick Military labs where they do testing on Army Special Forces and he keeps me up to date (unless it's classified info of course). I do keep in touch with many pro bodybuilders and still give a few of them advice. I do still conduct phone consultations and people interested in that should check the "Links" section on the home page for more info about that service.

* Guest on various syndicated radio programs/ guest speaker.

I do radio shows such as the Atkins show, which is a program hosted by the famous inventor of the Atkins Diet, Dr. Robert Atkins himself. I also do such shows as the Carrie Nossler show as well as others. I travel to speak as an invited guest at conventions and scientific conferences. For example, I spoke at the GNC convention about processing issues of whey proteins and the contaminants found in some creatines (see articles on the BrinkZone site for more info on that). Prior to that I was in Canada speaking about the medical benefits of whey protein at the University of Alberta at a symposium on functional foods.

* Nutritional study protocol designer.

So what is a nutritional study protocol designer? In addition to quoting research in my writings, I do my best to participate in primary research where ever possible. For example, I am considered something of an authority on whey proteins, being one of the first people to really talk about whey in the bodybuilding,fitness, and longevity publications. I have recently been involved in the design and protocol for research that looks at whey proteins and their uses in sports, health, and certain medical conditions. I often consult on the design of studies to institutions and companies regarding the outcomes. Many locations can do the research but they don't always know what to look for, and that's where I often come in. Helping them design the study to look at the correct effect/outcome. Studies often come to a negative conclusion because they look at the wrong outcome, don't use enough of the compound in question, don't use it correctly, etc. So far, we have 4-6 studies being planned for 1998/99 that look at a variety of nutrients and their effects on immunity, performance, fat loss, as well as other interesting things. Our first was a poster session at the 1998 ACSM conference. For those interested, see: C.M. Colker, D. Kalman, W.D. Brink, and L.G. Maharam. "Immune Status of Elite Athletes: Role of Whey Protein Concentrate." Med. Sci. in Sports n Exercise, Vol. 30, No. 5, 1998. It's just a small clinical on whey proteins and immunity in endurance athletes. We plan on a much larger follow up to this study. Other small studies have looked at compounds for weight loss and performance. Where and when I can, I try to be involved in discourse relating to research that involves nutritional supplements. For example, we (Karils Ullis MD, Tim Ziegenfuss PhD, Rick Cohen MD, Bill Roberts, and yours truly) had a Letter to the Editor published in JAMA regarding our criticism of a recent study done on the controversial supplement androstenedione. Those interested can read that in the February 9th, 2000, edition of JAMA (p 742). I also maintain an extensive network of scientists, researchers, medical doctors, athletes, and just general research freaks who I am in constant contact with. Many of the articles I have written in that past were co-authors with various scientist friends and I always enjoy making new contacts with researchers, trying to be of help in their search for answers regarding nutrition and other endeavors.

* Author of "Priming The Anabolic Environment."

A little book I wrote a few years ago that contains a wide range of subject matter ranging from weight loss to supplements to training. It's a short book but it's jammed full of useful information. It's geared mostly toward bodybuilders but if one reads between the lines it's easy to see that anyone can get something from this book, bodybuilder and non-bodybuilder alike. Some people really like this book while others have complained it was too short or not "hard core" enough. For fifteen bucks, I still think it's the best book of its kind on the market, though it's getting a little dated in some spots. Hit the "Books" button on the home page if you are interested in reading more about it.

* Authored "Weight Loss Nutrients Revealed." A comprehensive internet based e-book examining the latest nutrients marketed for weight loss. Published by Internet Publications. www.HealthandMuscle.com, 2000. (see Books Section if interested).

* Columnist for MuscleMag International.

I write a monthly column called "Intake Update" which can be found in MuscleMag International (MMI). MMI is a well known bodybuilding/fitness magazine that's sold all over the world. The column generally focuses on what's hot in bodybuilding/sports nutrition supplements, but I often talk about anything I want to, from politics to anabolics to what ever catches my interest relating to bodybuilding, fitness, alternative and traditional medicine, etc.
