Tipping

Waiters and other service people do not earn much in Spain so your contribution will definitely be appreciated. Restaurant's may or may not include service, but do not tip more than ten percent of the bill. Tip taxi's about ten percent of the total fare, but more for long rides or help with luggage.

Weather

Barcelona enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which means a warm, welcoming climate and pleasant temperatures all year round. The ideal months to visit are May, June and September, when you can rely on good weather. The summers can be very hot and humid, with an average high of 29 degrees Celsius (82 Fahrenheit) in August. January is the coldest month with an average of 13 degrees Celsius (55 Fahrenheit). It usually doesn't rain during the year, except for a few concentrated showers, also known as "cold drop", from September to November.

Currency

The currency used in Spain is the Euro. Notes come in denominations of  100,  50,  20,  10 and  5 and the coins in use are  2,  1, 0.50C, 0.20C, 0.10C, 0.05C, 0.02C and 0.01C.
To avoid possible frauds, we recommend using banks and other official exchange houses. The main train and bus stations usually have exchange offices with are open extended hours. American Express and Thomas Cook Travelers checks can be cashed at most bank and exchange houses. Most bank machines (ATMs) accept VISA and MasterCard credit cards.
