Vinson & Elkins, the only Texas-based law firm with an office in Singapore, offers a broad range of legal services in the Asia-Pacific region, including American, English and international law advice, and experience in countries and with local counsel throughout the region. Energy We have significant experience in the legal aspects of virtually all areas of energy and petrochemical activity—exploration, production, refining, transportation, natural gas derivatives, power and cogeneration, petrochemicals, environmental and regulation. We have provided legal advice on a variety of matters to the energy and petrochemical industry and its investors, underwriters and lenders, and we have assisted clients as legal counsel in the development of marketing strategies and complex derivatives products for natural gas (and more recently, independent power) and supply and transportation frameworks for large energy users, including some of the largest unregulated generators of power in the United States. We also have assisted lenders and investment bankers in developing new structured financial products designed to achieve off-balance sheet, limited recourse or favorable tax treatment. Clients include government-owned energy entities; multinational corporations; independent energy, mining and related service companies; large Asia, Middle-Eastern and North American industrial groups; international contractors; institutional, foreign and private investors; investment banks; and some of the world's largest commercial banks. Project Finance & Development We have built particular experience throughout Asia in various aspects of the refining, petrochemical and power industries to complement our broad experience in other energy projects. These engagements have included RFPs, privatizations, directly negotiated transactions, "facilities within facilities" and "inside-the-fence" power plants, with financing coming from commercial banks, capital markets, bilateral and multilateral agencies and export credit agencies. Private Equity Transactions Vinson & Elkins has a large and active private equity transactional practice throughout the East Asian region. Our lawyers have extensive experience representing private equity investment and venture capital firms in various legal aspects of their businesses, including tax structure, portfolio investments and regulatory compliance. In addition to core corporate, merger & acquisition, securities and lending expertise, the firm also has extensive depth in numerous specialty areas, such as New Economy transactions, acquisitions of distressed assets and energy industry transactions. Telecommunications and Media Vinson & Elkins' lawyers have extensive experience in the full array of activities surrounding the telecommunications industry, and have assisted clients in financings and development of corporate structures, equipment and service supply arrangements, network and system installation issues, licensing, assignment of frequencies, protection of trade secrets and confidential information, taxation, rule-making, rate-making, contested cases, administrative appeals, condemnation, litigation and legislative initiatives.
