Welcome to East Cape.
The Pacific Coast Highway along which you will travel, hugs the coast from Opotiki up to Waihau Bay and then on to Gisborne. It passes alongside some of the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand. White Island, the only volcano within New Zealand that is continuously active, is within the travellers’ sight all the way to Waihau Bay and pohutukawas, native bush and breath-taking views complement the beauty of the landscape. If you are fortunate you may see some orcas as they move along this coastline. This unforgetable drive passes through many small communities and the drive from Waihau Bay passes many places of interest. You may enjoy the 360 degree view from the East Cape Lighthouse, the walk through the bush at this most eastern point of New Zealand and the Tiki Tiki Church where the architecture and carvings are superb. The Tologa Bay wharf (the longest in New Zealand), and the Cooks Cove Walk both provide spectacular views. At the Tologa Bay Cashmere Company you can watch NZ cashmere being produced and designed as beautiful garments for purchase.
As you drive onwards to Gisborne through farm and grape growing land you will recall the beauty of it all.
