The two Food Lion AutoFairs, one in April and one in September, encompass four days of car shows, car corrals, parts vendors, a collector car auction and unusual attractions.

At each show, at least 50 car clubs bring more than 2,500 cars for display. The car corral, located on the speedway's 1.5-mile oval, features more than 1,5000 collector vehicles for sale. More than 7,000 vendor spaces guarantee you will break in a new pair of walking shows.

More than 3,000 custom and modified cars of every variety and color annually attend the GoodGuys Southeastern Nationals in late October. Street rods, custom rods, street machines and muscle cars displayed at the show run the gamut from a Model A taxi to a Henry J compact suffed with V-8 power.

David Burke may be surrounded by fighter jets at work, but his 1999 Chevrolet Blazer was the “top gun” Sunday, capturing Best of Show honors during the Food Lion AutoFair Awards Ceremony at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The highly customized, white-and-chrome sport-utility vehicle was judged best-of-the-best from among some 1,800 show cars present during the four-day automotive extravaganza.

"This is pretty awesome. It's my first time here and winning makes it really worthwhile," said Burke, a 29-year-old staff sergeant who paints fighter jets at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C.
