Compuware Services Save Detroit Public Schools (DPS) $3 Million
  
DPS Enjoys Savings of 16.5 Percent on Core Services, Efficient Delivery of New Projects
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--April 16, 2003--Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced the success of its IT services agreement with Detroit Public Schools. The agreement, signed in May of 2001, has saved the school district more than $3 million. Under the agreement, Compuware provides IT services that support the district’s educational mission in areas such as human resources, finance and budget operations, student information services, special education and others.
Improvements in core technology services achieved by the partnership have allowed DPS staff and students to more closely focus on their priority-education. These accomplishments in software, services and infrastructure include:
- A new, web-enabled e-mail system throughout DPS
- The replacement or upgrade of network components, hardware and communications lines throughout the district, creating the capacity necessary to ensure robust connections between the DPS data center and schools
- The replacement of all 56kb lines with T1 lines at all remote locations
- The replacement of old hardware with high-speed servers
- Upgraded software for Payroll/Human Resources
- Installation of new financial systems, including web-enabled purchasing and inventory modules
- Improved Call Center response for IT problems
- An expanded student attendance system
"Our goal when we contracted Compuware was to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our technology operations," said Detroit Public Schools CEO Dr. Kenneth Stephen Burnley. "Compuware has done just that, allowing us to concentrate on providing our students with an outstanding education."
Compuware and DPS achieved these results while reaching a 37 percent subcontractor participation rate from minority- and women-owned businesses, nearly a 50 percent increase from the original rate in May of 2001. Compuware has also retained 97 percent of former DPS technology staff, with a number of these individuals moving on to other projects of interest within Compuware. Former DPS employees have received, on average, 20 hours of specialized training in areas such as networking, application design and PeopleSoft since the agreement was signed.
