Governor Unveils FY05 Budget
July 27, 2004 It’s great to be back in the Valley. A group of farmers came here in 1935 as part of the New Deal, with big ideas and dreams of success. We still have big ideas, and I’m as optimistic as those Valley pioneers about the future of this great land.
Not since the discovery of oil on the North Slope have I been so optimistic about the direction of this state and about the legacy that this generation of Alaskans will leave its children and grandchildren.
Why am I optimistic? Because for the first time in a decade, we are moving in the right direction. Details >

| In other news: Fulfilling his commitment to strengthen Alaska's law enforcement and criminal justice system, Governor Frank Murkowski signed a package of nine crime bills at a ceremony at the Alaska State Troopers Crime Lab in Anchorage Wednesday. Flanked by Public Safety Commissioner Bill Tandeske, Attorney General Gregg Renkes, top officials with the Alaska State Troopers state prosecutors, and state legislators, the governor said the package of bills represent a significant advance in the state's ability to protect Alaskans against a variety of criminal activity.
