The Joint Boards of Fisheries and Game have established areas of
jurisdiction for advisory committees for the purposes of emergency closures
during open fishing or hunting seasons. The areas are specified for
finfish, shell fish, and game. Advisory committee initiated closures are
rarely if ever used because there are much more direct methods of initiating
closures such as department initiated closures.
For more information, please see the codified regulations 5 AAC 97.005 Areas of jurisdiction for advisory committees. The areas of jurisdiction are also referenced in the section of regulations that address elegibility for voting at advisory committee membership elections (5 AAC 96.060(e)(3)). You can view these regulations online at the State of Alaska's Department of Law.
