Utah Real Estate Help FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Category: Main -> Mortgages

Question
·  How do I apply for a mortgage
·  Do I need to get pre-approved
·  How do I find a loan officer
·  I've been told I can't afford it...what do I do?
·  What type of loan is best for me

Answer
·  How do I apply for a mortgage

Find a loan officer. They will help you through the process. You'll need a lot of personal information like your social security number, income amounts, payment advices, other stuff.

·  Do I need to get pre-approved

No. But it will help. A seller always likes to see that the person making the offer can actually get the loan and they're not just wasting their time. Some times the seller may require a pre-approval letter with the offer.

·  How do I find a loan officer

Ask around. Ask people you know who have bought homes before. Try a few. Go to a couple and see if you like them and if they are able to get you a loan. See our recommendations.

·  I've been told I can't afford it...what do I do?

Go see another loan officer. We were told we couldn't do it by 3 loan officers before we finially found someone who said they could do it. We were told that we would have to have a co-signer, that our credit wasn't good enough, that we ddn't make enough money. In the end, it was just a matter of finding the right loan officer.

·  What type of loan is best for me

That depends. There are so many different kinds of loans out there. What it comes down to is what is going to make the most sense financially. See our article comparing loans and advantages/disadvantages of each.
