As of 27 February, the Van Gogh Museum will stay open until 10:00 pm every Friday evening. The extension of the opening hours is made possible by the Rabobank, our promoting partner. In addition to the permanent exhibition and the temporary shows in the exhibition wing, the Friday evening programme features special events, including lectures, guided tours, readings, and live music. Sail 2005The spectacular sailing event Sail Amsterdam will be held for the seventh time from Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 August 2005, the theme being 'Enjoy a World of Friendships'. Many Tall Ships and Windjammers will put in at Amsterdam and a million visitors are expected. The Dutch Royal Navy pays a visitThe Dutch Royal Navy pays a visit to the Van Gogh Museum, as part of the companion programme to the exhibition Edouard Manet. Impressions of the sea. The Chamber Orchestra of the Marine Band of the Dutch Royal Navy will perform in the central hall. There will also be a DVD presentation 'Marine painters in 2004' by the Dutch Association of Marine Painters, plus a selection of visual material from the Naval Museum. |

Interior design in the shipping worldArne Zuidhoek describes the fascinating creations of artists and designers on board passenger ships, as part of the companion programme to the exhibition Edouard Manet. Impressions of the sea. With forty titles to his name Arne Zuidhoek is a leading publicist in the maritime field. He studied at the Art Academy in Amsterdam, after sailing on merchant ships and yachts and serving in the Dutch Royal Navy. Zuidhoek has also sailed as crew and passenger on large passenger ships. Art CaféThis is the first instalment of the Art Café, to be held in the museum restaurant on the third Friday evening of every month. This first evening focuses attention on the Royal Prize for Painting 2004, awarded to talented young painters by Queen Beatrix on 1 October. The sunflowerVincent van Gogh painted several pictures of sunflowers. The programme for this Friday evening, whose theme is the sunflower, has been organised in collaboration with the gardening magazine Groei & Bloei. Experienced flower arrangers display their creations with sunflowers in the museum's central hall. The Bonger CollectionFred Leeman, former member of staff at the Van Gogh Museum and independent author and exhibition maker, talks about the art collection assembled by businessman Andries Bonger (1861-1934). This collection was acquired by the Dutch State in 1996 and is now managed by the Van Gogh Museum. Leeman talks about Andries Bonger's close friendship with Theo van Gogh and personal relations with artists from his collection, including Vincent van Gogh, Odilon Redon and Emile Bernard.Followed by a guided tour of works by Odilon Redon and Emile Bernard from the Bonger Collection, which comprises more than a hundred pieces.
