Dogs on Duty The State Department employs dogs as part of its security screening process. For many years, the Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) used explosive detection dogs from other law enforcement agencies. In December 2002, DS created its own canine unit called the Explosive Ordinance Technical Division, with teams comprised of a dog and a security officer trained as a dog handler.
