Kanchanaburi; the 1st visit is at JEATH War Museum, stands for Japan,
England, American, Australia, Thailand and Holland, situated on the bank
of the Mae Klong River.
Afterward, scenic boat ride along the
Mae Klong River to visit the most famous sight “The Bridge over the
River Kwai River” – one of crying memorial monuments of mankind, and
estimated 16,000 war prisoners and 49,000 forcibly recruited laborers
died during the construction of the bridge. |
| 12:30 | Lunch at Pakseng Pier before visiting the allied prisoners of War Cemetery – this final resting place for 6,982 Allied war prisoners who lost their lives during their captivity in the camps of the Japanese Army that forced them to build the bridge over the River Kwai and the Death Railway. The dead are eulogized on a brass plaque at the entrance among gravestone messages remaining even today “We think of him still as the same and say: He is not dead, he is just away. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them”. . |
