| September 1, 2004 This Travel Warning is being issued to urge U.S. citizens to avoid travel to the Turks and Caicos at this time due to the threat posed by Hurricane Frances. The Department of State has ordered the departure of non-emergency personnel and eligible family members of U.S. Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy in The Bahamas, which has consular jurisdiction over the Turks and Caicos. This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning of August 31 to reflect the Embassy's Ordered Departure status. U.S. citizens in The Turks and Caicos are urged to consider departing until the storm has passed. Flights may be suspended at any time. If staying in the Turks and Caicos, U.S. citizens are urged to locate shelter, monitor media reports, and follow all official instructions. Visitors to the Turks and Caicos should be familiar with their hotel or cruise ship evacuation plans, policies, or procedures. The U.S. Embassy in Nassau will be closed to the Public as of noon local time on September 1. Consular officials will be available to provide emergency services to American citizens, but their ability to do so may be severely limited. Americans living or traveling in the Turks and Caicos are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, The Bahamas through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov.
