Senior Softball USA Days
The Senior Softball-USA International Tours gives senior players, those over 50 years of age, the opportunity to play softball and meet softball players in other countries. Senior Softball provides an opportunity for seniors to stay active and demonstrate a healthy lifestyle by playing softball games. The tours also include opportunities for sightseeing and a variety of get-togethers after the games such as barbecues, folk dance, and music.
2004 marks the 17th year that Senior Softball USA has taken players and their families on tour and marks the first tour that includes the State of Alaska. On the 2004 Alaska Midnight Sun Tour, softball games will be played in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan from June 22 through July 5.
Previous tours included the countries of England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Russia, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, Fiji, and Japan. On those trips the teams have played in tournaments such as the Pacific Rim Championships, the Irish-American Softball Championships, the Scottish-American Classic, and the European Senior Softball Championships.
Bill Ruth and Terry Hennessy of Senior Softball-USA and Wallace "Sandy" Williams of Juneau, Alaska, have been key to making this tour possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank H. Murkowski, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim June 22-July 5, 2004, as:
Senior Softball USA Days
in Alaska, and wish all its participants, both Alaskans and those visitors on the tour a safe, healthy, and exciting time in Alaska.
Dated: June 14, 2004
