Topography maps show the shape of earth's surface. They can be used to know the terrain of an area in
advance of traveling there. Hunters, hikers, backpackers, scientists, foresters and real
estate agents are all frequent users of topography maps.
These people also use aerial photos for the same purposes. Unlike a map, a photo is an actual
image of the earth's surface and can show vegetation and man-made features that could not be included
on a generalized map. Aerial photos can increase your ability to navigate and find your exact
position in the field - or plan where you want to go when you arrive at your destination.
