ANGLING NEWS TO OCTOBER 6th, 2004 |
It has been a wet and windy
autumn so far this year. A lot of rain has fallen particularly over the past 10
days and consequently water levels on the main Shannon system
particularly the upper region is starting to rise quite rapidly
limiting access to some of the known
hotspots as we write. Farther down river levels are high but
not flooded. The situation could change over the coming days,
we'll keep an eye on the conditions and keep you informed. The tourist season is expected to

This weeks report is confined to the managed midland trout lakes
which will remain open until October 12th. Fishing was reasonably good
but hampered to some extent by the poor weather conditions. Next Wednesday
October 13th will be our last report of the season. However any worthy fisheries
news will be posted thereafter so do come back from time to time to see what's
new

Bill Ryan Co Clare reports 21 Ballan Wrasse in a
4 hour session at Bridges of Ross to crab, Fighting very hard as the
Autumn Wrasse do! Most fish were in the 3 – 3.5 lb. range. Best fish

TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE - Seminar September 23, 2004

The crucial need to protect and
restore Ireland’s rivers and lakes from the ravages caused by a
booming economy were underlined at a highly successful seminar
organised by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board in Limerick on
September 23. The seminar, “The River Shannon
Waters – Working together for the Future”, brought together a panel
of top level speakers from at home and abroad to discuss actions
that need to be taken to ensure good quality waterways and water
animal, fish and plant life.
CONSERVATION OF SALMON AND SEA TROUT BYE LAW NO 797, 2004
INTRODUCED FROM SEPTEMBER 1st
The Minister of state at the Department of
Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Mr John Browne has made
the above Bye-Law, copies of which are available on the Departments
website www.dcmnr.ie or download in word by clickig on the headline
link. This Bye-Law provides for a bag limit of 1 fish being either a
salmon or Sea Trout per angler per day from 1 September, 2004 to
31st December, 2004.

produced by the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards, Editor Mr
Eamon Cusack CEO ShRFB. It covers a wide range of topics of
Fisheries and Environmental interest at national and regional level,
and publishes each of the Boards special projects and makes for
other interesting reading.
FISH STOCK ASSESSMENT ON THE
RIVER SHANNON BETWEEN ROOSKEY AND DRUMSNA
Following reports of declining fish stocks in the
Drumsna and Roosky section of the River Shannon the Shannon Regional
Fisheries Board commissioned the Central Fisheries Board to
undertake an assessment of fish stocks in the area. This report can
