Sophomore Season Set
Fernandez Racing managing director cites Dan Wheldon’s accomplishments as a model for IRL IndyCar Series rookie driver Kosuke Matsuura. Wheldon, the 2003 Bombardier Rookie of the Year, has not suffered a sophomore slump. He is second in the IndyCar Series standings heading into the Toyota Indy 400 on Oct. 3 at California Speedway, and has three victories among 11 top-10 finishes. In a news conference on Oct. 2, Super Aguri Fernandez Racing co-owners Aguri Suzuki and Adrian Fernandez announced that Matsuura will return to the team in 2005. Matsuura joined the team after finishing third in the 2003 Formula Renault V6 Eurocup and second in 2002 German Formula 3 competition.
