This is our most common request -- help with all forms of promotion, most being Search Engine Optimization. We offer help in the promotion of web pages through all means, with Search Engines being just one of them. Our site content has earned a great deal of praise and still it is only the tip of the iceberg.
First, any search engine company you consider should be well ranked in the various search engines. See our rankings for the major keywords for our market segment -- "search engine optimization", "search engine ranking", and "search engine advice":
Okay, we are well ranked for these words. Anybody else you are going to consider should be high on this list as well. Or what can they do for you?
Bruce Clay, Inc. has been a distinguished leader in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) internet business segment since January 1996.
A core component of any SEO project is the ability to analyze the competition and to properly re-engineer the HTML of a client web site to maximize search engine ranking. Bruce Clay. Inc. has invested heavily in the development of proprietary tools that facilitate the analysis of your web site as well as that of your competition. We then utilize this technology to edit your site, create additional pages, and to submit/monitor the progress to maximize the overall search engine ranking Bruce Clay, Inc. is a privately held California company.
At any one time the firm has approximately one hundred active projects. Bruce Clay, Inc. employs a lot of full-time staff at our 4200 square foot facility, all dedicated to active SEO projects at our Southern California headquarters.
Bruce Clay, Inc.'s philosophy is to view clients as partners. This ensures the success of our products in every implementation. Once Bruce Clay, Inc. begins a project, that client can rest assured that every Bruce Clay, Inc. employee is aware of the details of the project, and that we are all prepared to do whatever it takes to make sure the implementation succeeds.
Bruce Clay, Inc. has established an industry reputation as a high-quality and effective technology provider in the area of Search Engine Optimization. We are exceptionally well known in the industry and maintain a truly colleague-level ongoing relationship with other industry leaders. Bruce Clay, Inc.'s expert implementation staff has an industry reputation of excellence in utilizing our technology know-how in a quick and efficient manner and at a pace and depth that assures success.
Several main things affect industry reputation.
- It is our unique ability to provide highly efficient proprietary technology that has allowed us to deliver quality rankings in very short periods of time. These tools include (in part) research, detailed site analysis, LinkMaps and Dynamic Site Mapping page generation, monitoring, reporting, and link building tools.
- In other instances it is the world-respected content at our web site that has resulted in significant praise from colleagues and site clients. For published excerpts from the web sites of colleagues please see http://www.bruceclay.com/web_link.htm.
- In all cases, the major beneficiary of the technology is the customer where high rankings are the number one objective. By way of example we offer three items of proof:
- The ranking of our site itself. Using the major industry recognized keywords sought by ALL sites competing for your business (real-time ranking monitor appears near the top of this page) our site has the best overall ranking across the major search engines. Certainly any good SEO firm will have achieved high rankings for the major industry keywords in competition with their peers, and we offer ourselves as an example. Our competition is left in the dust.
- The ranking of our client sites (if our own ranking against competition is not enough). When the time is right we can give you access to a few of these reports.
- The third-party monitoring of praise and complaints by WebAssured (visit http://www.WebAssured.com/c/Business_Background_Report.cfm?ID=101655)
- And, of course, we are members of the Better Business Bureau!
In all cases Bruce Clay, Inc. stands alone as one of the best SEO firms in the world.
Technology Strategy and Vision
Building upon years of experience gained through successful hands-on implementations of SEO solutions, Bruce Clay, Inc. currently has exceptional skills allowing the company to take a leadership position in the Search Engine Optimization solutions market. Bruce Clay, Inc. brings a wealth of practical business-user oriented focus and Return On Investment (ROI) strategy and tactical advice to all of our client partners.
Our experience has repeatedly taught us that SEO is a means to an end, and not the end itself. With all of the noise and different, often conflicting, voices redefining and theorizing on SEO as a conceptual practice, Bruce Clay, Inc. has the application experience and client base to implement the quantifiable and successful project solutions that you require.
Bruce Clay, Inc.'s strategy focuses on obtaining Search Engine rankings that enable businesses and organizations to exceed their strategic objectives and goals. In the future, it is expected that this focus will propel your sites to higher traffic levels and thus greater significance as an asset of your business. In response to customer demands, Bruce Clay, Inc. views the next twelve months as a period of consolidation and change in the SEO market. Users that develop mature Search Engine rankings will subsequently insist on a higher level of conversion of these potential customers, propelling the quality and content of web sites to higher and higher levels of service. Users will demand that SEO vendors assume responsibility for continuing traffic and to participate in an integration of content and technology that "really works". Bruce Clay, Inc. believes that the search engine optimization industry is growing, learning, maturing, and that as a business tool it is, at least in the case of Bruce Clay, Inc., able to deliver on expectations for continuing internet traffic today and tomorrow.
The Project
As a priority, and as an initial promotion step, we offer a "search engine" package that is promotion-focused. We must alter the site to be search engine tuned, and when making that change to the text and keywords, there will generally be subtle design changes. We are not your average "web guys" that works in only one area of promotion. We look at the entire program as being integrated, and change whatever is necessary across the board.
We offer services in several forms. Most programs require research, design, submission, waiting, tweaking, submission, and waiting, thus we find that a typical program takes 90+ days to complete. This amount of time is approximate, and based upon site specifics and competition it may exceed that estimate. Since most of your visitors are likely to come from search engines, we think that this approach is an investment well worth making.
You will probably be seeing some results within a few weeks, and we will do our best to put and keep you on the top. If there is anything true about search engine placement, it is that ranking takes careful attention to detail and constant "tweaking", and patience is mandatory.
Now for specifics:
First, and for the official record, you get a best efforts attempt to have your web site ranked well with major search engines/directories. Our focus is with Go/Go, Yahoo!, Google, Lycos, AltaVista, Excite, HotBot, MSN, WebCrawler, AOL, Netscape search (Netfind), Magellan, and ODP/dmoz. These indexes and directories are hand-registered in this process.
The initial focus is on site competition. Once we have reverse-engineered the competition sites, understand their approach to keywords, and learn of their link strategy, we re-engineer your site to beat the competition with the same words. We also emphasize the keywords provided by the client to gain high rankings. This includes your company name and web site name. This takes a few hours.
Based upon the size, structure, and content of your site pages, some search engines respond well and some not so well. It is our intent to gain at least five top 25 rankings, and we sometimes obtain seven or more, but not always. There is no way to assure top rankings, and even if obtained, competition and frequent search engine algorithm changes can cause this to be lost. However, we do as well or better than most in this promotion market. Note that we can often get a few top pages, but in adding other engines, these rankings will possibly go down and while others may go up. We seek an optimal representation across all engines.
At this point, if you do not have at least two top 25 entries, we agree to keep going until there are at least two, or we agree to make alterations to your site design to support more direct search engine ranking techniques, or it becomes clear that the project is not going to achieve the desired results.
For instance, you have the issue of keywords. Some keywords are difficult if not impossible to obtain. Some are competing with large corporate sites with hundreds of thousands of dollars invested and they literally own single-word phrases. If the client selects 2 to 3 word phrases, they will do much better in the rankings. Obviously the design of the site and the competition plays a major role in the success of this project.
How we estimate has little to do with "sites", it has more to do with "units of work". We estimate "units of work" based upon the number of pages, keywords, and competition, then estimate the hours to perform the work, then offer a fixed bid for that work. However, we can and do offer a price break for long-term projects or multiple pages within a site (defined as similar keywords and competition). As for methodology and time distribution, what we do is review the competition, review the target keywords, review your site then alter the site to include search engine optimization methodologies, register with one (or more) engine until satisfied, and hand submit to the others. As some registration is currently running 4 to 6 weeks, this latter process is slow and may take several submissions to achieve desired results. Given 3 to 6 hours for research, 2 to 4 hours for re-engineering your page, and about 1 hour for multiple submissions and monitoring for each of 16 major engines (at 1 hour each, this totals about 16+ hours for submission and monitoring), the average project is 26 hours. All of our actions are best efforts, and nothing is guaranteed. You are paying us for our effort in submitting your site to the engines. Only the search engines control their algorithms, so nobody else can guarantee placement.
We apply our knowledge of the search engines on the behalf of a client so that they do not need to try to do it themselves. Learning how to deal with the engines is a career, and you should focus on your business instead of this narrow specialty. We offer no guarantees, all work is only best efforts, and nothing is certain.
Search Engine Promotion is a little like trying to herd cats.

Link Requests
Some of these major search engines allow "reputation" to improve search engine rankings. Reputation is determined by counting the number of other sites that link to your site, so the more links there are from other sites to your site, the better your ranking. Additionally, if the other site itself is well respected, then their link to your site is worth more. For instance, a link from the MicroSoft.com site is better than a link from BobsPage.com.
As a result, the second area of concentration should be to obtain links from as many top sites appropriate for your topic as possible. These sites receive a lot of traffic from various sources outside of the search engines, and as a result they can potentially direct as much traffic to the site as the average search engine.
The process for obtaining a link is non-trivial. We research each site so that we can identify the individual page where we would like the link, write the text for the link as we would like it and as fits within the context of the target site, and then issue a well written professional plea for a link. On occasion there will be two or more requests needed before there is a reply from the site. The process can clearly take a lot of time and effort, and is best accomplished by personnel who know the web and how to design web sites.
As a result, the link request submission takes an average of 15 minutes. There are a great many sites on the web that would be appropriate for a link.
It is time to implement and make money -- do it right. The next step is to review our Rates page right away!
