Thanks a Bunch! ppc campaigns on controversial words This has been the subject of a bit of discussion in the European courts and elsewhere recently and is also something I've personally experienced on clients trading names (some of which are also their personal names) - so I'm interested on what the general take on it here is....
Is it acceptable to run an adwords campaign which appears against a search for someone elses name, product or company?
As far as I can see there are three sets of rules to consider, the actual legalities, the TOS of the ad service (Adsense/Overture/Etc) and the ethics of the situation.
I also know there will be a whole variety of different circumstances; whether or not a trademark exists (and if it does which jurisdiction it's for), whether a name is a 'celebrity' or not, whether the ad actually mentions the keyword or simply appears next to results, whether the 'owner' of the keyword objects or not and whether the advertiser intends to mislead are a few but there are also a load of others.
So; is it fair? is it business? is it evil? Help required I have been trying to get a listing for my site on Google but that does not seem to be happenning. Please advise me as feel crippled without the ranking

Site has one page and next to no content, keywords in the title, but no meta keywords tag, or meta description.
Breaks all the "rules" but has a PR of 4 on Google - does this not blow the whole PR thing wide open? By most common measures of what makes a site rank well on Google this site should be nowhere!
If this is right, then all you need to rank well on Google is a keyword stuffed title? Google PR Update Google has made some tool bar udates. PR is updated by google and some web sites gone from PR5 to PR3 and some have PR increase The "Seven Veils" Approach to Website Construction This is for the beginner website builder - since I have no karma, I wanted to make a contribution!
Begin building on a solid foundation, carefully employing good hand-coding and observing the SEO tips that you can comfortably apply found in our forum. Add some site-themed outbound supportive links, a sprinkling of carefully chosen reciprocal links. Start SMALL. Don't get fancy. Then wait. Wait to be found by the spiders. Be patient. Avoid submitting to the SEs. They will find you.
When you are finally indexed, begin to add some of those pages you had in mind from the beginning. But, add them slowly, a couple each week. Give the spiders some new food. Then, wait some more. Watch your results patiently. A slight move up in SERPs? A slight uptick in traffic? Stabilize, maintain, then add some more content.
What you want to do is reveal more and more of your website over time. You DON'T want to build "the kitchen sink" and open with a big splash and just stand back. You want to tease and coax the spiders to visit, see what's new.
On down the road, consider adding your blog. Add it later rather than sooner. Be creative here, find appropriate graphics, write tightly, and use text link-outs to other resources that complement your topic, and a very few linkbacks to your own interior pages, if on-topic. The spiders like this, I think, and so will your visitor. Try to find educational/governmental/academic/authority links, if you can.
Build your website slowly and thoughtfully and you'll find your results will be consistently good; and, more importantly, your results will be sustained over time.
A successful website is only limited by your own imagination and creativity. Build big, but build slowly, calmly.

High Rankings Search Engine Optimization| QUOTE | | Yes we do use meta keywords. So let me touch on meta tags real fast. We index the meta description tag. It counts similar to body text. It's also a good fallback for us if there's no text on the page for us to lift an abstract to show to users. It won't always be used because we prefer to have the users search terms in what we show. So if we find those in the body text we're going to show that so that people can see a little snippet of what they're going to see when they land on that page. Other meta tags we deal with are things like the noindex, nofollow, nocache we respect those. For the meta keywords tag... well, originally it was a good idea. To me it's a great idea which unfortunately went wrong because its so heavily spammed. It's like, the people who knew how to use it, also knew how to abuse it! What we use it for right now is... I'd explain it as match and not rank. Let me give a better description of what that really means. Obviously, for a page to show up for a users query, it has to contain all the terms that the user types, either on the page, through the meta data, or anchor text in a link. So, if you have a product which is frequently misspelled. If you're located in one community, but do business in several surrounding communities, having the names for those communities or those alternate spellings in your meta keywords tag means that your page is now a candidate to show up in that search. That doesn't say that it'll rank, but at least it's considered. Whereas, if those words never appear then it can't be considered |

hotelzone: Keyword Density Problem With Text From Form (Search Engine Friendly Design & Usability) Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble with the search engine spiders indexing text from within the drop down selections in a form that appears on each of my web pages. This form includes two sets of date parameters, (month & date), and these elements, (January, February, March & 1,2,3,4,etc.) are diluting the keyword density on my pages. For example, the most popular 3 keyword phrase on my home page is, april may june, august september october, etc.
Is there a simple way to suppress form text from being picked up by the spiders?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff Thomas Founder Hotel-Zone.com

nedguy: Mystery Spike In My Stats (Server Logs and Tracking ROI) What, not even Randy! reddevil: Master Seo (The Pub) ..awh come on, it doesn't make me any less a person if I sit in my theatre of dreams sometimes OldWelshGuy: Trademarks In Adwords Ads (Pay-per-click (PPC) Search Engine Advertising) Snowman, your so right in that. It would actually be a landmark if someone actually took someone took another to court for this sort of 'anchor text' trademark infringement.
It would be interesing to see if Google could be forced to explain fully their algorithm with regard to the case and anchor text, or if indeed Google could claim the 5th to protect their own interests.
C'mon Ian Mc spil the beans, what's your take on this Haystack: Trademarks In Adwords Ads (Pay-per-click (PPC) Search Engine Advertising) I doubt you'll find a case of Company A becoming upset by a link to Company A's web site from Company B using Company A's trademark in the anchor text. At least, that's my interpretation of snowman's first post in this thread.
However, if Company B solicited links from other sites that point to Company B's web site using the trademarked name of Company A in an attempt to Googlebomb their way to a high ranking for their competitor's trademarked name, then yes, that would probably be a problem. I don't know if that's been done yet, but it's an interesting concept.
Jill: Site Contain Pages With Same Name ! (SEO No-no's) Ted, I have no idea. I simply wouldn't use any duplicate content on pages I wanted to be indexed by the engines. If I didn't care about them being indexed, then I wouldn't care if they were duplicate if it made sense for them to be for whatever reason. gravitate: Having Trouble Getting Google Rankings (Optimization Tips & Techniques) True, it has been only a month, but the pages have been indexed and it is showing in the SERPs for other phrase, just not the ones that I am trying to optimize for (ie the ones in the title tags). In fact, I can take the entire 8-9 word Title Tag, which has supporting content, and enter it into Google and it returns nothing. Just strange to me is all.
Well, thanks for the feedback and congrats on the Sox!
- Michael snowman: Trademarks In Adwords Ads (Pay-per-click (PPC) Search Engine Advertising) If you use a trademark in the link text or in the body text there is.
There is no difference between using "Coke" or the image of a CokeCola or the CokeCola swish image in a link to Coke's corporate site as using the same in a print ad in a newspaper.
CokeCola does not have to let you use their name to promote your brand of weight loss products or automobiles or anything else.
You have to remember that the words in the links are searchable just like the rest of the text and constitute advertising. The word "Coke" is a trademark and is protected.
I just used Coke as an example. Pepsi or Ford or Tide or Snickers would have been the same.
snowman: Site Contain Pages With Same Name ! (SEO No-no's) Jill, how much of the same text would you estimate has to be the same to trigger a page being duplicated? 30% 50% 70%?
Would you include a menu and links in the percentage that is the same?
