This page explains some of the policies of SmartGirl Internette Inc. concerning the site at www.smartgirl.org. We advise you to read this page carefully before visiting the rest of the site. SmartGirl may contain descriptions of acts or language that some may consider offensive or inappropriate for minors. SmartGirl retains the rights to distribute written work and other information sent in by its audience. SmartGirl does not and will not distribute full names, addresses, or e-mail addresses of its audience to anyone, ever. Read our privacy policy for more information.

Publishing and choosing reviews, love letters, stories, and advice requests

SmartGirl chooses which reviews, love letters, stories, and advice requests are published based on the personal preferences of the editor. We publish negative and positive reviews and everything in between, regardless of the viewpoint presented by the author. Factors such as length, interest level, and relevancy of content may be considered. SmartGirl does not promise that any material submitted will be accepted for publication. SmartGirl reserves the right to remove material from the site at any time for any reason. Discussion group and chat content, in accordance with the technology involved, is not reviewed by SmartGirl prior to publication.

Ownership and copyrights

All material on SmartGirl.org, with the exception of previously published poetry in the "love letters" section or as otherwise noted, is copyright 1996-2002 and owned by SmartGirl. Material from SmartGirl may not be publicly reused except by the writer without express permission from the SmartGirl company.

All material submitted to SmartGirl is owned by SmartGirl. Contributors will not be compensated in excess of $0.01 for any submission.

Content of Reviews

Material submitted to SmartGirl may be edited for length and grammatical accuracy by the SmartGirl editorial staff. Material is not fact-checked for content accuracy, nor is content censored for material that some may find offensive. SmartGirl Internette is not responsible for inaccuracies in the content contained on the site, nor is the company responsible for the negative results of any actions undertaken by an audience member at the suggestion of content contained on the site. This means, don't blame us if you follow advice you see here and something bad happens.

The reviews of products on SmartGirl are written by anonymous members of the general public. SmartGirl does not dictate the content of the reviews. SmartGirl cannot guarantee that reviewers' descriptions of products are accurate, or that other consumers will agree with the reviewers' assessments.

SmartGirl is unable to check material submitted for copyright availability. SmartGirl cannot guarantee that reviewers have not plagiarized phrasing or quoted copyrighted materials in their reviews. In the case that copyrighted material is recognized on the site, SmartGirl will remove the material upon receiving proof of previous copyright.

SmartGirl does not take responsibility for any false or misleading information published about products or services. It is impossible for our editors to fact-check every statement made by our audience. Although we do try to correct some errors, review content should be considered the opinion of the author, not an official statement made by SmartGirl.org, its management, or employees.

SmartGirl does not establish the identity of reviewers, either for SmartGirl's use, or for outsider access. Although we do collect email addresses for the purposes of sending membership passwords and subscribing users to our newsletter, we do not know the last names or street addresses of our reviewers, and we consider them to be anonymous.

SmartGirl cannot guarantee that material published on SmartGirl will be devoid of messages that some may find offensive. SmartGirl advocates freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Due to the nature of discussion group or "bulletin board" technology on the Internet and the great quantity of reviews received, SmartGirl is unable to control the content of every message published on the site.

SmartGirl will not take responsibility for damages caused by any obscene or offensive material published on the site. Users visit SmartGirl at their own risk.

Opinions presented by the public in the different sections of SmartGirl reflect the opinion of the submitter and are not to be considered the official opinion of SmartGirl Internette, SmartGirl's editorial staff, or the Unversity of Michigan.

SmartGirl is devoted to promoting media either designed for or made by girls and women. We don't promote much co-ed media -- we can't do everything! PLEASE don't think this means we don't want girls going out and doing whatever they want to in life! Women can do anything, and boys are welcome to visit SmartGirl as well.
