The 2003-04 season’s Executive Committee of the Volunteer Council is made up of (left to right) Carol Dallos, vice president; Phyllis Topol, vice president; Ellen Haas, vice president; Barry Schwartz, president; Helen van der Voort, executive vice president; Corrine Whalen, vice president; Rosalie Mazzalupo, vice president; and Leonore Glickhouse, secretary.

The Volunteer Council was created in 1980 to coordinate the talents, time, and energy of people who care about music and the New York Philharmonic.

The Council offers opportunities for involvement in a wide array of projects. Varied assignments, personal growth, and association with the New York Philharmonic family are some of the many rewards of Council membership.

The Council leadership is drawn from the membership. Under the aegis of the President and Officers, the Council's committees work with the Philharmonic staff in the areas of:

Council members are expected to:
  •  Participate in at least one committee assignment.
  •  Sign up for Gift Shop and/or Staff Assistance.
  •  Make an annual tax-deductible contribution of $75 or more to the New York Philharmonic, thereby qualifying them for membership in the Philharmonic Symphony Society of New York and the benefits of the Friends Program.Contributions are made at the time of acceptance and annually thereafter.
Council members are encouraged to:
  •  Attend business meetings.
  •  Volunteer for work other than that assigned.
  •  Familiarize themselves with Council structure, procedures, and projects.
  •  Become subscribers and supporters of the New York Philharmonic.
