Accessible Websites

There are two million people with sight problems in the UK. Many people have other impairments. If you do not
want to lose these potential customers,
it makes good business and moral sense to produce information in a way that
does not present barriers to this significant group.
In the UK it is a legal obligation under the Special Educational Needs
and Disability Act 2001 (SENDA) and section 21 of the Disability Discrimination
Act to make services accessible to people with disabilities.
In the US under section 508 regulations it has been a requirement that
all public sector websites meet accessibility standards since 2001 with the
right to sue if they are not.

A website to the non-impaired person may be completely "readable",
audible, where you can easily see pictures, watch movies and flash
effects. However, the same information may not be "readable"
to a person with a disability. Webites however can be carefully
designed to be accessible to all.
You may find however, that a lot of accessible sites are bland
in their design and so are not neccessarily appealing to those
viewers who do not have an impairment. We pride ourselves on building
