FSA Firm and Person Check Service

Why use this service

If you do not use an authorised firm or authorised person you will not have access to available complaints procedures and compensation schemes if things go wrong. You will not have this option if you use an unauthorised firm or unapproved person. The FSA have publised a list of unauthorised firms that are currently targetting UK investors.

For more information about types of fraudulent activity see Scams and Swindles

Go to Firm Check Service

The Firm Check Service is a user-friendly way of consulting the FSA Register to check if a firm is authorised and able to do the kind of business you are interested in and who to contact in the firm if you have an enquiry or complaint.

If you use an authorised firm you have access to available complaints procedures and compensation schemes if things go wrong. If you use an unauthorised firm you do not have this option.

When you want to use a firm offering financial services always check that the firm is authorised to provide the service you are interested in.

Go to Person Check Service

Some jobs within a financial firm are crucial to the way the business is run or to the service which customers get. So, the FSA has special rules to make sure the people in those jobs are fit and proper and work to certain standards. These jobs are called 'controlled functions'.

Before someone can perform a controlled function, they must be approved by the FSA.

The FSA keeps a list of approved persons on the FSA Register. The Person Check Service lets you check whether someone is on the list and what controlled functions they perform for which firms.

If you have any difficulties using the Firm or Person Check Service please call the
