Destinations of Kota Kinabalu
Sabah Foundation Building
Situated in Likas Bay, is the 30-story notable landmark of KK. It is a glass building supported by high tensile steel rods emanating from a central building and is an architectural and engineering feat. The building is unique because it is one of the few buildings in the world to utilize a single column structure.

Sabah Trade Center (STC)
The center was established in line with the State Government's policy of promoting a value-added economy through private sector investments. STC's function is to provide a much needed venue for a wide range of activities such as exhibitions, conventions, seminars, meetings, gatherings and other functions. With the state government's efforts to accelerate industrial development and the strategic location of Sabah in the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines - East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) configuration, the STC is poised to play a vital role in these developments. STC is strategically located in the outskirt of the city and yet, is very accessible. It is 12 km from Kota Kinabalu International Airport and it takes just 15-minutes by car. Its majestic background is the Mount Kinabalu in the east and the South China Sea in the north. By virtue of Kota Kinabalu being centrally located in South-East Asia, STC is strategically located to serve the Southeast Asia region.

Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary (KKCBS)
Designated as a bird sanctuary in September 1996, this 24-hectare remnant patch of mangrove forest is located just 2 kilometers north-east of Kota Kinabalu. KKCBS is the only remaining patch of an extensive mangrove forest that once existed in much of the area in the coastal town of Kota Kinabalu. The site is an important refuge and feeding ground for many species of resident birds, as well as several migratory species from Northern Asia. KKCBS is not only a natural green lung for the city but also strategically located as an environmental education center, serving the people of Kota Kinabalu and Sabah. It is a heaven for bird watching, especially, at native birds in their natural habitats or during the migratory bird season.

Likas Sports Complex
Is well equipped with the complete facilities and hosted several successful international competitions.

Atkinson Clock Tower
One of the most enduring landmarks in KK, which has stood prominently on the bluff along signal Hill Road, is the KK's clock tower. It was built in 1902 as a memorial to Francis George Atkinson, the popular first District Officer of Kota Kinabalu. This memorial has distinction of being the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the air raids and blitz of World War II.

Sabah Museum
This is the state museum that is built along the lines of traditional longhouses of the Murut and Rungu tribes. The museum is one of the best places to preview the indigenous culture of the island as on display are exhibits featuring totems, skulls (the Muruts were highly feared headhunters), weapons like the lethal blowpipes as well as antique Korans and priceless photographs. Also located at the museum are the Science and Technology Center and Art Gallery.

Sabah State Mosque
This resplendent structure, with its majestic domes and gold inlay motifs, is a spectacular sight, ideally located as a place of worship for Kota Kinabalu's Muslim inhabitants and visitors.

Mt. Kinabalu
The highest peak in Borneo, raise majestically into the sky at 4,095.2 m. or 13,432.26 ft., and with its granite massif towering high above its parent range - the Crocker Mountain Range- the summit is not always visible as it is often shrouded in mists and clouds, all of which add to the mountain's mysterious allure. Mt. Kinabalu has an awesome mystique all its own, no wonder that, long ago, the Kadazans/Dusuns named it "Aki Nabalu" or "home of the spirits of the dead".

Mt. Kinabalu National Park
A world heritage site, Mt. Kinabalu National Park, is 138 km away or 2-hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. The road cuts and winds through lush countryside dotted with traditional village houses to give you an unforgettable scenic journey. Once in the park, rejuvenate your body and mind at the Poring Hot Springs, a natural health spa where you can relax in open-air Japanese style baths amidst a tropical rainforest setting. Mt. Kinabalu National Park is home ground of rare flora and fauna including some 1,000 species of orchids, 850 types of butterflies, and 621 strains of ferns as well as the rare Rafflesia Tengku - Adlinii.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park
This is the top of the list diving site for enthusiasts with its many offshore islands and coral reef. Manta rays, giant turtles, myriad species of coals, lionfish and sharks are just few of the marine denizens that inhabit the warm waters of the park.

Gaya Street Fair
The Gaya Street Fair is held every Sunday morning and is the place where the locals come to buy their goods. You can find almost anything at the fair. From local handicrafts, souvenirs and clothing to food, drinks, Chinese medicines, delicacies and even animals like chicken and pet dogs which can be purchased for very reasonable prices. It is also a good opportunity to polish up your bargaining skills.
