About Using LotFinder®
LotFinder® catalogue search

What is LotFinder®?
Accessible 24 hours a day, this innovative online search engine allows you to view images and specific information from catalogues of Christie's auctions around the world and to submit online absentee bids.

When is catalogue information available for LotFinder® search?
Information is added to LotFinder® as catalogues are published, up to two months in advance of sales. Images are removed the day following the sale, but text remains online for one month.

Are all lots illustrated?
No; however, LotFinder® includes images of all lots illustrated in our printed catalogues. Images are removed the day following the sale.

How are the search results arranged?
When there are exact matches, they are displayed first.  Clicking "More Results" brings up results with spelling variations and synonyms.  When there are no exact matches, results with spelling variations and synonyms are displayed first.

How does LotFinder®'s information differ from that of printed catalogues?
Sometimes LotFinder® information may be more up-to-date.  On the other hand, certain printed catalogues may provide more extensive information and illustrations.

What is search by keyword(s)?
The keyword(s) text entry field, located at the top right corner of each page and on the Search Options page, searches catalogue titles and all lot information in online catalogues.

Can I search for numbers?
Yes, LotFinder® can search both specific numbers (1066) and number ranges (8-12).  Because dates can be written in different ways, we recommend trying several different ways to search.  For example, you could search 18th century both as 18th century and, in a separate search, as 1700-1799.

What are "Search Options"?
LotFinder's® search options provide ways to narrow your searches and to save information in LotFinder® Assistant.

What is search by provenance?
This field is useful when searching information concerning a lot's prior ownership.  However, use the keyword(s) field when searching geographical or cultural origins (e.g. French, Japan, Minoan).

Are the identities of all sellers public information?
Christie's publishes sellers' names only with permission.

What is search by location?
To narrow your search, you can select particular locations from the menu.  "Search All" allows you to search all available catalogues.

To find all catalogues available for search at either specific or worldwide locations, first clear all text entry fields, then select either a specific location or "Search All," and then click "Search."

What is Quick Search?
Located on the left navigation bar on the "Search Options" page, enter either a specific sale number to browse an entire sale or a sale and lot number to quickly access detailed information about a particular lot.

Why do I get so many results?
LotFinder® is programmed to give up to 500 matches for each search.  Entering more search words and using the Search Tips will help control the number and order of your results.

Can I use LotFinder to search for Property in single sale?
By entering your search words and either the sale number or words from the sale title in the Keyword(s) field, you can limit your results to a specific sale.

Can I use LotFinder to search for property in a single sale?
By entering your search words and either the sale number or words from the sale title in the Keyword(s) field, you can limit your search results to a specific sale.

Why can't I find the item for which I am searching?
Three common reasons may be:

*Your search words may differ from those in Christie's catalogues.

*Christie's data may not correspond to the field searches you have selected.
Tip:  Try entering the information in the keyword(s) text entry field.

*Your item is not included in currently available catalogue information.
Tip:  Try again in a few days or use LotFinder Assistant to search forthcoming catalogues and notify you of results by email.

LotFinder Assistant

What is LotFinder Assistant?
LotFinder Assistant searches catalogues for you daily and sends emails whenever it finds new results.

Can I view my search results if I don’t want email notifications?
Yes, your search results for all upcoming sales are always available by clicking one of your saved searches on the LotFinder Assistant page when you are logged in to Your Account.

Can I change or cancel searches?
Making changes is easy. Log in and click "Go" in the LotFinder Assistant box on the Your Account page to go to the LotFinder Assistant page.  There you can make changes in your search by clicking Edit.  This will take you to the Search Options page with your current search information already filled in. Make the changes you want and click either Save or Save New. To stop email notifications, select "No" under Receive Mail on the LotFinder Assistant page. To re-start canceled emails, select "Yes." To cancel a search entirely, click the X to the far right of the item.

Why do search results differ between email links and the LotFinder Assistant page?
Emails notify you of new results based on daily searches of a particular group of new catalogues. Accessing Search Results from the LotFinder Assistant page lets you compare results from all current catalogues with matching lots.

Why do results vary from one day to another?
Results may vary from day to day as catalogues are added to LotFinder’s search information and then removed after the auction.
