Unions protest new overtime rules
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

WASHINGTON Several hundred union members have marched outside the Labor Department to protest new overtime rules that take effect today.

The protesters wore union T-shirts and chanted, "Come on all you (b) billionaires, give us wages that are fair."

Two senators are pledging to roll back the new regulations when Congress returns from recess.

The Labor Department says the new rules clarify previously confusing ones.

But unions say they're meant to help companies cut costs by reducing the number of workers eligible for overtime.

There are varying estimates of how many workers will lose their overtime eligibility under the new rules. The administration says it's about 100-thousand, while opponents say it's in the (m) millions.
