O. Bruton Smith

O. Bruton Smith
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Growing up on a modest farm near Oakboro, N.C., Bruton Smith parlayed his love for "building things" into a business empire, focusing on the motorsports and automotive industries.

First profiled in the prestigious Forbes 400 in 1996, Smith has been listed among the wealthiest people in America each year since by the business magazine.

Smith founded Speedway Motorsports, Inc., by consolidating his motorsports holdings in December 1994, and in February 1995 he made it the first motorsports company to trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:TRK).

H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler
President and General Manager
Lowe's Motor Speedway has been under the direction of president and general manager H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler since 1975. Utilizing his innovative style of entertainment promotion and his extensive motorsports background, Wheeler has helped transform the 1.5-mile superspeedway into one of the world's leading sports facilities.

During the past 10 years, the speedway’s seating capacity has grown from 75,000 seats to 167,000. In 1992, Lowe’s Motor Speedway became the first superspeedway to host night racing with the addition of a $1.7-million lighting system. Under Wheeler’s direction, the speedway was also the first to offer extensive VIP suites, condominiums and extravagant pre-race entertainment.

Wheeler was part of another motorsports first in 1995 as he and speedway owner Bruton Smith went public with Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE:TRK), the first publicly traded motorsports company on the New York Stock Exchange.
