FISHERIES & ANGLING HIGHLIGHTS
COARSE ANGLING SEASON STARTING
TO WIND DOWN AS AUTUMN ADVANCES AND WINTER PIKING SEASON APPROACHES
It has been a wet and windy
autumn so far this year. A lot of rain has fallen particularly over the past 10
days and consequently water levels on the main Shannon system
particularly the upper region is starting to rise quite rapidly
limiting access to some of the known
hotspots as we write. Farther down river levels are high but
not flooded. The situation could change over the coming days,
we'll keep an eye on the conditions and keep you informed. The tourist season is expected to wind
down slowly over the coming weeks at which point we will revert to
fortnightly
reports. Winter Piking events have commenced -
watch this space for upcoming news on these!

Geoff and Geoff, father and son from Bolton had
a great five day's fishing while staying with Kevin and Jane
at Melview Lodge, both braved the bad weather to catch
fish. Both Geoff's had some nice Bream and Roach from a
location close to Melview Lodge, they said Kevin showed us a few
places which were in fishing form and we did the rest. Thanks
for a great time.
Strokestown Lakes - have been affected by bad
weather and rising water levels and the fishing has slowed down
lately.

reports for
SHANNONBRIDGE area
Andy Clarke from Lincs fished the Shannon at Shannonbridge and had
steady sport on lovely quality Roach, unfortunately the enjoyment
was spoiled by the bad weather.
Dave Kemp fished at Ferbane on the Grand Canal and an enjoyable day
on September 26th. A few pikers have arrived to the area. A Belgian
angler had 18 pike the first day out on Saturday last October 2nd,
best fish were 97cms and 84 cms. Steve Nell from Sheffield had three
doubles of 10, 13 and 15lbs dead baiting on the River Suck. A few
other fish were reported.
River levels have risen considerably in recent days and this is
something we need to keep an eye on as flooding cannot be ruled out.

With the weather becoming very
unstable and wind direction changing suddenly I have taken
our boat out of the water for a well earned service and
drying out. Over the last few days the fishing on the lake
has improved a bit but the winds have strengthened to gale
force and are to stay like this over the next few days.

I would like to say thank you
to all of you who came and fished with us again this year
and also to those who used our services for the first time,
hopefully you will be back again next year. The fishing was
not at its best but after having many good years we were due
a slow one. Some of you endured big swells and rough trips
to get to the swims and also to get back with not too many
complaints !!!!!!!. Some good nights were had discussing
tactics over a pint in Mills bar next door to our shop and I
will have some pictures up on our gallery page for you to
check out.
Our pike -fly fishing
competition went well with local angler Ger Brown taking
first prize of €1000 and the Kincora Hall Trophy. The
competition will go ahead again next year on the 17th of
September
http://pikefly.net.Thanks to all who took part in this
competition again this year and pictures are available on
the gallery for this also.
Once again thanks to everybody
and tight lines.
